8 Prayers for Summer

As we enjoy the warm days of summer and all that this season brings, here are a few thoughtful prayers to help guide you as you invite God to be a part of this new season.

Father God, Thank you for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight. Thank you for the beauty I see all around me and the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation. Thank you for the increased time I have with my friends and family. Draw me close to You this summer. Please help me to sense your presence. Please open my eyes to the truths found in your word. As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and thirst for You. Amen.
Jesus, this summer will be full of new experiences for me and my friends: new jobs, exciting mission trips, and vacations. May we grow in maturity and character through all we do. May we end the summer more like you. Amen.

Loving and merciful God, as we enter these summer months and make travel plans, I ask you to send your angels to guide and protect us. Give us safe traveling mercies. I ask that you keep us safe from all harm and injury. Amen.
Lord, as we enter the summer months, I am so thankful for the long warm days ahead. It’s a time for picnics, family gatherings, and resting. Help me to do just that . . .to rest. Help me slow down a little bit. May I be reminded to rest in the cool shade of your presence. Regardless of what I may face at work or home, slow down my restless heart and fill me with compassion for those around me. Amen.

As the heat of summer intensifies, let me be mindful of the needs around me. Thank you for the many blessings you’ve given me. Today, I pray for those without air conditioning or electricity, clean water, and health care. I pray for those who may be in “survival mode.” Please give them the communities and resources to not only survive but to thrive this summer. And Lord, remind us to provide you with a drink when we see you thirsty. Amen.
Jesus, Thank you for this season of warm days. Given what we’ve experienced this past year, we need to be able to get out of our homes, to get outside, to breathe fresh air, and to see your magnificent creation. As I reflect on the past year, a part of me misses the small things that once gave me comfort. I see now, in many ways, how they were false comforts. I realize that you have been refining me, showing me what is most important. Please help me to change and grow, to become more like you. Thank you for your guidance, for building my resolve so that I may follow you boldly. Amen.

Heavenly Father, Sometimes I feel like David, surrounded by enemies. He cried out to you, “Let those who seek my life be ashamed and humiliated” - Psalm 70:2. My enemies are different from King David’s. Still, his Psalm reminds me to keep my eyes on you and not be distracted by my enemies. You are my Salvation, My hope and light. I was created for you to love me. I, in turn, get to choose to love you back. Thank you for your grace. I choose to rejoice in you; To praise you for your daily mercies, the Summer sunshine—time with family and friends.
God, I pray for my children/grandchildren. Grant them joy in new experiences as they head into the summer months. Give them confidence in growing friendships. May you give them strength in their growing independence. As they plan for what’s to come in the fall, provide them with wisdom in their maturity. Bless all the teachers, assistants, helpers, and volunteers who teach and nurture our children and young people. I ask for your blessing, joy, wisdom, and patience as they recharge their batteries over the summer break. Amen.
