Self-control allows us to say no to ourselves when everything in us wants to say yes. Self-control keeps us from trading what we want most for what we want now. Self-control allows us to make the hard decisions during the hard times of life, so we don’t do something now that we’ll regret later.
A Prayer for Proverbs 25:28
“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”
A Prayer for 1 Corinthians 10:13
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
A Prayer for 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
A Prayer for Proverbs 16:32
“Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.”
A Prayer for 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So, I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadow boxing.”
A Prayer for 1 Peter 5:8
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”
A Prayer for Romans 12:2
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
A Prayer for Titus 2:12
“And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.”
