Water Mission, a nonprofit Christian engineering organization, is responding to the historic flooding from Hurricane Fiona in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. Water service has been cut off for two-thirds of the island’s residents, approximately 2.1 million people. A team of rapid responders is on the way to Puerto Rico to assess safe water, sanitation, and hygiene needs.

“During any disaster, clean, safe water is critical to help prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses,” said George C. Greene IV, PE, CEO and president of Water Mission. “Please pray for the people of Puerto Rico and all the organizations involved in responding to this urgent situation.”

With more than 20 years of experience responding to natural disasters and humanitarian crises, Water Mission has an extensive background in providing immediate and long-term safe water solutions. We responded after Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico in 2017, the most destructive storm to hit the island in more than 80 years. It made a devastating impact on safe water, power, and health care services. Water Mission’s response met immediate needs and helped communities rebuild, often with better equipment than before. Many of the solutions built in 2017 remain operational today.
