7 Female Artists Shaping K-LOVE

It’s no secret, women rule the (music) world. Female-fronted acts are currently dominating the pop landscape, selling out stadiums and effortlessly churning out hits. This trend, however, isn’t just limited to mainstream spheres. More than ever before, women are making their voices heard in Christian music. These fearless females aren’t just topping the charts, they’re also writing their own songs and headlining their own tours, putting the power in “girl power.” But professional growth isn’t where it stops. Today’s leading ladies aren’t simply using their vocals to make incredible music; they’re also using their voices for good, inspiring an entirely new generation of girls with their confidence, generosity and transparency. While this is far from an exhaustive list of all the women currently impacting the Christian genre, here are 7 (of many) female artists currently shaping K-LOVE.

Terrian

That big voice you’re hearing when K-LOVE plays “Big God”? That’s Terrian. The fresh face is relatively new to being out front, but she’s hardly new to Christian music. She’s been on the road with TobyMac for years. The youngest member of the hitmaker’s Diverse City Band, Terrian is also signed as a solo artist to Toby’s label, Gotee Records. She released an introductory EP, “The Genesis of Terrian,” in 2021; but she resolutely opened a new chapter when she dropped the insanely catchy “Big God” earlier this year. Terrian treated listeners to the arena-sized anthem at the 2023 K-LOVE Fan Awards Kick-Off Concert. When she’s home, the Memphis native gives her time to AngelStreet Ministries, an organization that mentors girls through music and played a key role in Terrian’s personal growth and development.

Franni Rae Cash Cain (We The Kingdom)

Franni Rae Cash Cain is easy to spot when her band, We The Kingdom, makes an entrance. Not only does she assume center stage, but she simply steals the show as the only female member of the multigenerational group. Music does more than run in the family — it pulses through her very veins. Franni’s dad, Ed — We The Kingdom’s patriarch — constantly welcomed Christian artists into his home studio while she was growing up, as he’s written and produced some of the biggest songs in the genre. While the entire outfit is known for their entertaining live shows, the “Jesus Does” singer harnesses enough energy for all of them combined with her signature high kicks, bare feet and broad smile. The personable frontwoman is also an undeniable trendsetter with her fashion-forward wardrobe and her long, untamed locks of brown hair. Beyond Franni’s engaging stage presence, it’s her flawless voice — emanating with plenty of heart and freedom — that leaves fans mesmerized.

Rachael Lampa

Following a long break from music, Rachael Lampa made a surprising comeback with thoughtful ballad “Perfectly Loved (feat. TobyMac).” The now mother of two signed a recording contract at 14, forcing her to grow up in the spotlight after her debut album, “Live For You,” skyrocketed in popularity. Choosing to give up her musical platform in her early 20s, Lampa went on to tour as a backing vocalist for an array of high-profile artists, including Hozier and Jordin Sparks. During her indefinite hiatus, she also found purpose outside of music through prison ministry and her family’s non-profit, People Loving Nashville, an organization that feeds and serves Nashville’s homeless community. After “Perfectly Loved” became Lampa’s first trip to No. 1 in 22 years, the song was voted Breakout Single of the Year at the 2023 K-LOVE Fan Awards. Her equally-as-beautiful follow-up, “Somebody to You,” is a passionate pop duet with close friend and tourmate Andrew Ripp that continues to chart a fresh course for the songstress, who’s been welcomed back with open arms.

Natalie Grant

Natalie Grant has been one of Christian music’s most consistent hitmakers over the course of her decades-long career. It’s been a minute since the powerhouse vocalist has sent a song up the charts at Christian radio, but her latest — “You Will Be Found (with Cory Asbury)” — is a worthy contender. The single is a cover of the emotive power ballad written for “Dear Evan Hansen” and previews Grant’s next studio effort, “Seasons” (available Oct. 6, 2023), a one-of-a-kind collection that finds the award-winning artist putting her stamp on songs that have had a profound impact on her own life, including a duet with CeCe Winans on Andrae Crouch’s “My Tribute (To God Be The Glory)” and Dolly Parton on Whitney Houston’s “Step By Step.” Grant is married to GRAMMY®-winning songwriter and producer Bernie Herms, who has helmed projects for superstars like Barbra Streisand and Josh Groban and with whom she shares three daughters. The “King of the World” singer is also the co-founder of Hope for Justice, a non-profit that exists to bring an end to slavery around the world. Grant will co-headline “K-LOVE’s Celebrate Christmas” tour with Danny Gokey later this year.

Blanca

Latin songstress Blanca has been on a red-hot streak at radio lately with a string of certified hits like “Even At My Worst,” “The Healing” and “Something Better (feat. Tauren Wells)” — all selections culled from her latest studio project, “The Heartbreak and The Healing.” The vulnerable collection is an honest look inside Blanca’s past few years — a turbulent period of time defined by both pain and rediscovery as she lost both of her parents to cancer, endured a difficult divorce, then subsequently found a more self-assured version of herself. A gifted lyricist, Blanca holds co-writing credit on each of the album’s 13 vibrant tracks. The bilingual vocalist is of Puerto Rican decent, but was born in New York. She eventually moved to Florida, where she now resides with her 10-year-old son. She got her start in Christian music as a member of Dove Award-winning trio Group 1 Crew before embarking on a solo career. A trailblazer in the genre, she’s intentional about incorporating a veritable rainbow of bold sonic textures, diverse cultures and contrasting languages into the music she crafts, positioning her for global impact.

Lauren Daigle

Nine-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner Lauren Daigle remains an industry powerhouse thanks to her signature rasp, colorful personality and lyrical prowess. Her latest, “Thank God I Do” — the lead single from her third studio project — just ascended five different charts, camping out at the summit for multiple weeks. She’s set to add an additional 13 songs to her self-titled collection on Sept. 8, 2023, rounding out the full-length set with a full 23 tracks. A few days ahead of the release, she’ll hit the road on her highly anticipated “Kaleidoscope Tour,” bringing a brand new show to arenas across the country throughout the fall. In addition to being an unrivaled force in music, the Louisiana native often gives back to the communities she visits. Through her philanthropic arm, The Price Fund, Daigle consistently partners with vetted ministries and organizations to aid people in need both domestically and abroad.

Katy Nichole

Newcomer Katy Nichole has quickly transformed into a household name thanks to the extraordinary resonance of “In Jesus Name (God of Possible).” A clip of her singing a portion of what became her debut single gained massive traction on TikTok before the song was even fully finished, much less released. Once the burgeoning artist introduced a studio version of the track, it was off to the races as the prayerful ballad broke records and catapulted the 23-year-old into the spotlight. Notching a second consecutive No. 1 with the help of Big Daddy Weave, Nichole further expanded her profile with “God Is In This Story,” which the pair performed live at the 2023 K-LOVE Fan Awards. Her third offering, the heartfelt “Hold On,” proves to be another gem from her debut LP, inspired by a season when she almost chose to end her life following years of chronic illness. Gripping a bottle of pills, Nichole said she heard God encourage her to “hold on.” We’re so glad she did.
