I remember when I got saved, and man, my response was one of gratitude. I thought, "Lord, thank You. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for saving me from Your wrath." I felt very dirty. I didn't feel worthy enough to be saved. In our text today, we have Isaiah giving us this hymn of praise.
I love this—Isaiah chapter 12 and verse 5 says, "Sing to the Lord, for He has done wonderful things. Make known His praise around the world."
The Joy of Being Rescued
Going back to my story, after I got saved, I remember going to church and I would sing these songs and I was singing with so much joy because God rescued me. That's what the word salvation is—it means to be delivered. It means to be rescued.
What's interesting in this text is in verse 2, Isaiah is referring to the Israelites, and he says, "See, God has come to save me," talking about the Israelites. Then he says, "I will trust in Him and not be afraid." Then in verse 5 he says, "Sing to the Lord, for He has done wonderful things."
First comes saving, then comes singing.
What Is Your Response?
My question to us today is simple: What is your response to God saving you? Maybe you haven't received Jesus as your Lord and Savior. I want to remind you that salvation is available today. For those that are saved, what is your response? Is it one of gratitude?
Sometimes we forget what God has rescued us from. It's not that I used to do this and I no longer do this—that's not what Christianity is. Christianity is: I love Jesus and I have a vibrant relationship with the Lord, because there's nonbelievers who don't smoke, who don't drink, and who don't party. What's the main difference? For the believer, it’s that they love the Lord.
Personal Joy, Global Mission
I love this verse because it reminds me of the fact that salvation is such a joyful experience. Deliverance, right, is a joyful experience. Not only that, it doesn't stop there. It's not only personal—now we get to share it with everybody. Listen to the remainder of the verse: "Make known His praise around the world."
When I got saved, I started sharing my faith with my buddies at the gym and when I'd go to coffee shops—and hear me, I didn't share my faith perfectly. I didn't fully understand the gospel, but I simply told people that God has changed my life. God has forgiven me.
My question to us is: What will your response be to God saving you?
