Do you ever notice something about people who complain? People who are ungrateful? What's one thing that these people really never do? And I confess, I do it too. I know Philippians chapter 2 says do all things without grumbling or complaining. People complain a lot. They don't sing.
I want to ask you a question. As you look at your life personally, as you think about your family, as you think about your work, maybe just think about what preoccupies you in your own mind at the gym. Are you a person who sings?
When You're Amazed, You'll Praise
You know, the Bible says there's a song on the heart of the redeemed. You know, my mother-in-law, she died in her 90s just a couple of years ago. If she was doing dishes, if she was walking around the inside of the house vacuuming, if she was helping us with food, whatever it was, she was always singing. Matter of fact, she'd get on the piano and she'd be banging that piano and she'd sing. And she didn't have the best voice, but man, she could sing. And the reason she could sing is because she was amazed at Jesus Christ. When you're amazed at Jesus, you'll praise Him.
Our Verse of the Day is a tremendous verse. I love this verse. It's Psalm chapter 96 and verse 2. It says, "Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves."
Three Beautiful Exhortations
Can I just give you three quick, beautiful exhortations from this? This comes right out of the passage. Number one is sing. Find songs in your life that you like that are encouraging, that sing to the Lord. It's absolutely personal because when you're amazed, you'll praise.
Secondly, you will praise what you enjoy. Not only sing—praise. We all praise what we enjoy. And then finally, when there's a song on your heart and when you're praising, thirdly is you'll proclaim. Right there from the Bible, you'll proclaim who Jesus is and the good news that He's our Savior.
Examining Our Hearts
Now look at your life. Think about if you're a person who praises the Lord Jesus Christ. You know, if I think about how much I sing, if you think about how much do you sing? If you think about in your life how much you praise, and think about in your life, how much do you proclaim? Do you communicate the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ?
Because again, you will be praising what you're amazed about. And you know what? You and I have the tremendous opportunity to communicate and talk about the Lord Jesus Christ, who has given you the greatest gift, and that is forgiveness. You're forever forgiven, finally and forever. And so now let's go out there and let's tell people about this great Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sing about Him! Proclaim Him! Praise Him!
