Are you on track? I know that's a loaded question. You're probably thinking, my health could be better. My finances could be better. My relationships could be better. I probably need to read my Bible more, pray more. How do we know we're on track with the Lord? How can we truly know that the life that we're living is pleasing God? God has a specific race for us to run. He has a specific road for all of us to run. I don't know about you, but I want to run my race well.
Learning to Listen
Notice in our verse it says, My child, listen and be wise. That word listen is so important because if we're going to stay on track, we have to learn to listen. Honestly, I think it takes humility to be able to receive feedback from people or allow people to speak into our lives. The first point is this: if we're going to stay on track, we need to learn to listen.
Ask yourself the questions, who am I allowing to speak into my life? And what kind of a worldview do they have? Do they believe the Bible? Are they believers? Are they seasoned believers? I'm thankful for people that have spoken into my life in seasons where I've battled addiction. They've encouraged and corrected me because I needed it. If we're going to stay the course, we have to be open to receiving correction.
Keeping Your Heart on Course
Then Solomon says this: Keep your heart on the right course. Man, something happens when you keep your heart on something. Before I married my wife, my heart was set on her, and it still is. I did everything in my power to pursue her, and we ended up marrying each other. I remember, there's something powerful that happens when we pursue a certain path. When my heart is on something. This is what Solomon is telling us. Keep your heart on the right course.
What is the right course? The right course is the Word of God. The right course is when God's Word is the standard for our lives. There's so many competing voices in our nation right now. We have social media. We have voices from our past, things that people have spoken over us. Then we have the Word of God that is true. That's a roadmap for us.
I want to encourage you: make the Word of God the standard for your life. Let the voice of God lead you. If we're going to stay the course, God's Word needs to have the final say in our lives. My child, listen and be wise. Keep your heart on the right course.
