The name of the band Abandon was inspired by the Bible verse Joshua 22:3, which says "God has directed us not to abandon any brothers.”
Abandon first came onto the music scene in 2008, and consists of five members: brothers Josh and Justin Engler and cousins Stevan and Dave Vela, and Bryan Fowler. With a sound that draws comparisons to artists such as U2 and Coldplay, Abandon’s music is catchy yet inspirational. Dedicated to spreading the word of God, their song “Hero” does just that with lyrics that boast, “there He goes, a hero, a savior to the world, here He stands with scars in His hands...with love He gave His life so we could be free, the savior of the world.”
Abandon released its sophomore album Control in April 2011 which created a lot of buzz in the music industry. This album tackles the questions that many of us should be asking ourselves daily, “‘Are you in control or is God in control?’” Josh Engler of Abandon encourages people to ponder. “We basically want people to come away with an answer to ‘who’s controlling your life?’ We’re not really looking for a quick answer, but more to challenge your perspective and to provoke thought and motivation. It’s brave to question where you’re at and search out your heart.”
Abandon recently announced that they will be headed to the Philippines this October for the Saved Festival 2012 with fellow artists The Katinas and Desperation Band.
