About Sarah Masen

Sarah Masen

Sarah Masen is an American singer-songwriter originally from Detroit, Michigan. For several years she has lived in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, the author David Dark, and their three children. Initially signed to Charlie Peacock's re:think label, and subsequently released work on the Intercord Record label in Germany, Word Records, and is now independent. As a songwriter, she has collaborated with Béla Fleck, Sam Ashworth, and David Wilcox among others.

Sarah earned a degree in English while touring, shortly after signing to re:think records in 1996. She released 5 full-length albums between 1996-2001 and 6 EPs between 2007-2014. In 2006, Sarah also began studying ceramics in Nashville, working with studio potter, Caroline Cercone, who introduced her to the Japanese folk craft movement. Influenced heavily by Cercone and the Mingei tradition, Sarah began making functional and sculptural work that draws deeply on the paradox of hard-to-talk-about beauty in simple objects and circumstances. She continues to write and release music in addition to working with clay under the Moniker, Fieldhouse. Her studio is in Nashville, TN.
