Big Daddy Weave "I Know"

“I don’t understand the sorrow, but You’re calm within the storm. Sometimes this weight is overwhelming, but I don’t carry it alone,” Mike Weaver earnestly sings in Big Daddy Weave’s latest hit, “I Know.”

The frontman and his bandmates have lived these lyrics after surviving a year that saw Mike’s brother and Big Daddy Weave bassist, Jason, contract a rare, life-threatening disease that required both of his feet to be amputated. Meanwhile, drummer Brian Beihl and his wife endured a long IVF process after battling infertility for years.

The band’s recent struggles are captured on the limited reality TV series, When the Light Comes, which originally aired on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and is now available for streaming on-demand. When the Light Comes is also the title of the band’s new album, rife with songs that wrap melodies around the hurt and suffering they’ve experienced firsthand. Their latest single, “I Know,” declares God’s goodness in the midst of unspeakable circumstances.

“Our song ‘I Know’ was written in a really difficult season of heartache in our life,” shares Weaver, before adding a word of encouragement to listeners. “Maybe you are in the midst of a season like that right now and everything seems turned upside down. You can’t stand on what you don’t know, but if you can think about the times when you have seen God be faithful and you’ve experienced His love, remember and stand on that history in your life. Remember and stand on the truth that, deep down, you really do know that God is good.”

His goodness prevailed. With the help of prosthetics and extensive physical therapy, Jason is now back on the road with Big Daddy Weave. Moreover, on Jan. 2, Brian and his wife, Kim, welcomed Tate Alan Beihl, their son.

In celebration, the band kicked off the year with Jason on bass and the new baby in tow on the “When the Light Comes Tour.”
