LOCAL Closer Look: Miami Coconut Grove Food Pantry

Jack Church talks with Nick Smith, Co-Director for the Coconut Grove Crisis Food Pantry located in the Coconut Grove area of Miami-Dade County Florida. Smith said the pantry was was established in 1984 by four sponsoring organizations: Christ Episcopal Church, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and Plymouth Congregational Church. Prior to the pandemic the Pantry was serving around 60 families and individuals and is now serving over 200. Volunteers come together weekly, bagging food at Christ Episcopal Church often referred to as the "Pink Church". Smith said they are 100 percent volunteer driven and receive most of their food from grocery stores and individual donors.
