Ron Turner talks with Lisa Coleman, Executive Director of H.I.S. Restoration Ministries about unwed expectant mothers in the Bay City/Saginaw area. Coleman explains their organization serves up to ten mothers per year. She talks about the importance of the unborn child’s health during this time of stress for the mother, so they provide comfort and a refuge to help the mother navigate an otherwise dire situation. Coleman explains the minimum age of their clients must be 18 years old and says the average age is 22 to 25. Coleman explains some of the reasons these unwed expectant mothers are coming out of a domestic violence situation to trafficking. Coleman describes the various services they offer to these mothers to help them in their journey toward motherhood by teaching them life skills in practical ways so they can succeed in the future with their child. Coleman says their facility in downtown Saginaw can house 4 mothers at a time where they get their own room and can stay up to 6 months after the child is born.
