10 Healing Prayers from Psalm 46

Psalm 46 is an excellent guide for prayer when we need healing. Rather than the struggle we find ourselves in, we can seek peace and protection from God. It reminds us of the presence of God is healing our souls as we listen to the psalmist's desire to live in a city under the Lord's protection. We know that times of struggle and poor health happen. In fact, it's guaranteed that we will be sick sometimes or go through longer health issues. But we can lean into the Lord's presence as a protector in these troubles. It reminds us in times of trial that though these troubles may come, we have a God watching over us.

1. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. - Psalm 46:1 NLT

God, thank You that I can count on You as a source of strength and protection when I'm not feeling well. Please help me remember that You are my comfort to turn to You first when my health is uncertain. So today, I choose to give this sickness over to You.

2. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. - Psalm 46:2 NLT

When I look at my health situation, Lord, it would be easy to be fearful, worry, or let anxiety take over. But in You, I can be secure. I can rest. You are my rock and my hope. In You, I can find refuge.

3. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! - Psalm 46:3 NLT

Father, I can get overwhelmed when I think about appointments, test results, and all the other things that go into my current health situation. But knowing You are seeing me through it all helps me to know I am secure and need not tremble. You have this, and I can rest.

4. A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. - Psalm 46:4 NLT

Father, all healing flows from You. All wholeness finds its beginning and completion in You. It's like a river of comfort flowing from Your throne. Because You are enthroned on high, I know I am right where I need to be, even if my health fluctuates.

5. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. - Psalm 46:5 NLT

God, from morning to evening, You are with me. Whatever my health may be, You are present. You are right here with me, and I will never be alone. Thank You for Your help, Your all-day, never-failing support. In You, I will not be moved.

6. The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God's voice thunders, and the earth melts! - Psalm 46:6 NLT

Lord, nothing stands against Your power. My concerns melt before You. When my health changes, when my worry increases, You speak, and it all is put into perspective. Your sovereign care over me is all I need. You are my "enough," even when I don't know what is going on with my own health.

7. The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. - Psalm 46:7 NLT

God, even in this challenging time when my health is uncertain, You are with me. You are my fortress. I can hide in You, feel safe in You, and know I am protected. Thank You, Father, I praise Your Name. You are with me, and so I am secure.

8. Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how He brings destruction upon the world. - Psalm 46:8 NLT

Lord, when I think about all the good things You have done and all the mighty works You have accomplished, I know my health is secure in Your hands. Wind and weather obey Your command. Indeed my health is in Your hands, too. So calm my heart and direct my mind. You are sovereign over all things.

9. He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; He burns the shields with fire. - Psalm 46:9 NLT

God, You alone can direct my life and make me strong. You fight my battles. You are stronger than my afflictions and sickness. You have my life in Your hands, and all disease will one day be cleansed by Your righteousness. Thank You for this promise of healing that comes to us all day in Your presence.

10. Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. - Psalm 46:10 NLT

Father, I know that I just need to be still in You. I know that You are God. Even in my illnesses, You will be exalted. Even in the face of sickness, You will be praised in my life. God, You are worthy. I love You. Thank You for being all I need, even now. I trust in You.
