8 Prayers for a Broken Friendship

Friendships are an essential part of our lives, but have you ever experienced a time when a friendship you had was broken or strained? While we know people may often fail us, God never does, and He is always there for us when our friendships fail. As you navigate a broken friendship and seek to heal and rebuild, here are 8 prayers to help encourage and guide you.

1. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 NLT

Lord, I need Your strength right now. I admit this broken friendship has created a hole in my heart, and I’m so disheartened. Show me how to navigate through this time, I know You are with me and are holding me up through the pain. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. – Colossians 3:13 NLT

Father, as I walk through this tough journey, I find myself angry. The friendship I had deteriorated and shouldn’t have to ended like this. Help me look to You to find the strength to forgive even though I’m struggling through this process. Show me how to rebuild this broken relationship. In Jesus’ name, amen.

3. Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 NLT

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a constant source of rest while I’m dealing with this broken friendship. This burden is heavy, and I admit I feel emotionally drained. Help me to lean on You through this time and trust that You will carry the weight of this burden for me. In Your Son’s name, amen.

4. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. – Psalm 34:18 NLT

God, my heart is broken. I admit it’s difficult to trust in Your plan sometimes, but I know You are guiding me through this pain I’m feeling. Help me not let my broken heart cause me to run away or stop trying. Even though I’m feeling crushed, please help to remember You are always near. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.

5. Each time He said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT

Lord God, I feel weak as I navigate through this broken relationship. Help me to rely on You for strength as I go through this time. Remind me that Your grace is always more than enough for me, no matter what my circumstances are. Show me how to rely on You for the strength I need. In Jesus’ name, amen.

6. Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. – Psalm 55:22 NLT

Jesus, thank You for always taking care of me. It’s easy to hold on to this burden and sadness I’m carrying through this broken friendship, but I trust that You can carry this load for me. Give me the courage to let go of this weight and to walk confidently with You as I seek Your will in this friendship. Amen.

7. All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. – 2 Corinthians 1:3 NLT

God, I’m so thankful for the mercy and grace You show toward me. While I’m feeling discouraged about the ending of this friendship, I know You will always be there for me. I praise You for always being my constant source of comfort even when I feel uncertain about the future of my friendship. In Jesus’ name, amen.

8. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You! – Isaiah 26:3NLT

Lord, I fix my eyes and heart on You. My soul feels restless as I think back on the good and bad times I’ve had in this friendship. Give me Your perfect peace as I continue to strive to trust You in all circumstances, even when I’m in a season of sorrow. Give me peace and clarity to work towards reconciliation in this friendship. I lift up all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
