8 Prayers of Protection from Psalm 34

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves in a place where we need to be reminded of God’s protection. Whether it’s medical, marital, financial, or otherwise, we all face challenges where we need God’s help to get us through our difficult circumstances. While God doesn’t say He will keep us from all harm, He does promise to be with us and ultimately protect us when we are with Him for eternity. Throughout the Psalms, God refers to Himself with titles such as our Refuge, our Strong Tower, or our Place of Safety. If you find yourself at a time when you are seeking His protection, like a loving Father, He offers you the opportunity to call out in prayer, asking Him to come to your rescue. Let’s look at 8 prayers of protection you can pray from Psalm 34.

1. I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart – Psalm 34:2 NLT

Father, I come to You admitting I’m helpless and need You to protect me from the trouble I’m facing. I’m grateful during this trial, and I can have confidence I will be victorious. I know this confidence doesn’t come from my own ability. But it comes from the promise of Jesus, who warned us we were going to have difficulties in this world but not to lose heart because He has remained sinless through His journey through this world. (John 16:33). Therefore, I know I can be victorious too because His victory is mine.

2. I prayed to the LORD, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4 NLT

Thank You, Lord; regardless of what problems I face, I can bring my fears to You, and You will free me from them. You have encouraged me in Scripture to be strong and courageous. I know that when I am afraid, I can trust in You. It’s not Your will that I fear. Instead, You have given me a Spirit of power that finds its source in You.

3. Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. – Psalm 34:5 NLT

Lord, as I go through the testing of my faith, I hope to be encouraging to other people. Instead of projecting worry over my circumstances, I want to walk in confidence and experience joy in my life. I want Your radiant presence to reflect on my face. Your Word tells me to be joyful when trials come my way. I know these trials are leading me into a deeper faith in You.

4. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; He saved me from all my troubles. – Psalm 34:6 NLT

Father, You know there are times when I desperately call out for Your help. I thank You for listening to my pleas for comfort, and for answering me. I know there is nothing too hard for You, including my current circumstances. I offer praise to You, knowing You are already in the process of delivering me from the troubles I am facing.

5. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; He surrounds and defends all who fear Him. – Psalm 34:7 NLT

Dear Father, I stand in awe of Your glorious power. When I think of Your majesty, I am humbled and overwhelmed by Your care for me. I know You send angels as messengers to protect me and watch over my ways. I ask that Your angels surround, guard, and keep me safe. In Jesus’ name, amen.

6. Even strong lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. – Psalm 34:10 NLT

My God, I know You want me to trust You with all my heart and not rely on my own abilities when facing these troubling times. I believe You already know what I need to help me through my trouble. There is no doubt You give good gifts to Your children, to those who have faith in asking for them. I trust there is nothing I need You cannot supply.

7. The eyes of the LORD watches over those who do right; His ears are open to their cries for help. – Psalm 34:15 NLT

Lord, it comforts me to know nothing in my life escapes Your notice. I know You see my coming and my going. I’m thankful You not only watch over me but You hear me when I carry my prayers before You. I know my prayers seeking Your help are like an offering of incense to You. Yet, not only do You hear, but You answer according to Your will.

8. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time. – Psalm 34:19 NLT

God, how it lifts my heart that You never tire of coming to my aid. I know it’s the blood of Your Son Jesus that cleansed me and placed me in a right relationship with You. Because I’m Your child, You choose to help me. Being a good Father, lend me Your strength, help me, and guide me with Your loving hand. Thank You for coming to my rescue.
