Jireh by Maverick City

Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” – Genesis 22:14 NLT

Written by Maverick City and Elevation Worship, “Jireh” is a song that speaks to the heart of the gospel—Jesus. When we have Jesus, we have all that we need. That’s the gospel in a nutshell.

Just a few days before the recording of Jireh, Chandler Moore, who helped record the song, faced a terrible fire in his apartment. He lost everything. “The song took on a new meaning,” Chandler Moore from Maverick City Music stated. With lyrics like, “Jireh, You are enough, and I will be content in every circumstance,” the song quickly became his personal testimony.

The first thought is often linked to money when we think of provision. While it is true that God does supply our needs and blesses us with money, this is not the ultimate provision for the Christian. Christians are promised something greater than money. It is the presence of Jesus. The promise of the gospel is that whatever comes our way, we have a God who will not abandon us. He is Emmanuel, God with us.

You might be saying to yourself, “But I am struggling and overwhelmed right now, and I need God to provide for me.” And can I just tell you, “I’ve been there!” It is not a comfortable place to be in. So let those moments drive you to your knees, pushing you to depend on God like never before.

See, when we need provision, God encourages us to ask. James 4:2 says, “You don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” So don’t fear asking God. He is a loving Father that delights in taking care of His children.

I’ve had seasons of financial struggles and have been reminded of all the ways God has provided for my family. Make a gratitude list and name how God has cared for you. You will be amazed at how blessed you are. In some of my most painful seasons, I’ve learned that God’s presence is what sustained me. As I prayed for provision, God gave me His presence. And there have been times when God has answered my prayer with financial blessing.

Our job is to pray, but we leave the results up to God. It’s also important to be good stewards of what God has given us. God wants us to be wise with how we manage our finances. He also desires us to be people who are content, whether we have a little or a lot.

But how can we be content in every circumstance? Hear the lyrics to the song, “I will be content, in every circumstance, You are Jireh, You are enough.” Being content is understanding that our real needs have been fulfilled by the Greatest Treasure, Jesus. So, no matter what we face, we can rest in knowing Jesus provides us with the gift of His presence. And that is more than enough. This is at the heart of the song, Jireh.

Here are two practical tips on how we can grow in contentment. It begins by learning to give resources away and cultivating a heart of gratitude. This takes intentionality. When we give resources away, we slowly develop generosity towards others. And the result? We become people who are content.

So, no matter what comes our way, God will be our Jireh, our provider. He is more than enough, and we can be content in every circumstance.
