Loving God with Every Ounce of Your Being

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

Have you heard this statement? "I love them with every ounce of my being." What does somebody mean when they say that? They usually mean goodness—everything from the top of my head down to the bottom of my feet. You remember that feeling where it's just, oh my goodness, I'm overwhelmed by this person. I can't wait to be with them. I need them in my life. When they're around, I just can't help it. I just love this person. I want to experience everything with them. I think about them when they're not around.

It's this overwhelming thing that every ounce of me loves them or wants to be with them. You know, that's where we find our Verse of the Day today, and it's actually the way we should feel about God.

Some of you may be thinking, "Wait a second, wait a second. This is way too over-the-top spiritual, religious, or something else." Let's consider this for a moment. Here's the Verse of the Day today. Psalm chapter 104 and verse 1 says, "Let all that I am"—almost like every ounce of my being—"Let all that I am praise the Lord! Oh Lord, my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty."

Understanding Our Need and His Greatness

When we think about someone that may love someone else with every ounce of their being, or as this verse says, "let all that I am," what would that take for you to be there? One is experiencing a need. So you have a need where it feels like this person that you love with every ounce of your being—they fill every need in your life. You don't feel like you need anything when they're around. But the other side is when you get to know them, they're just so incredible. They're so amazing. You just can't help but be around them and want to talk to them and learn more about them, and spend every waking moment or experiencing everything with them.

It's the same thing with the Lord, though. If you really, genuinely see your need for the Lord, you may be able to see it when you're in need, when you're going through a difficult time. But do we see it in every single day that we live? That we have a genuine, authentic need for our Savior? But then the other side of when you get to know Him, He's so much more amazing than what we could ever imagine.

Especially the very next verse—it says, "You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens." He is so magnificent. When you look up at the stars at night, everywhere you look, all of creation, you see His handiwork. And this same God wants a personal relationship with you today.

What True Worship Looks Like

When we talk about praising the Lord, we think of a lot of different things. We think of, "Oh, praise the Lord," or just singing, or we call it worship music or something else. I would just encourage you to consider there's a lot of different definitions of worship. I would just encourage you to consider this: What if genuine worship is simply having a clear, authentic, and real perspective on a holy, loving God and then ushering yourself into His presence? Just that alone would cause us to praise Him if we truly understood Him, and how much He loves you and how amazing He is and how powerful He is.

That same victory that He won on the cross through Jesus' death, and the same power that we see in the universe that these verses are describing, He wants to offer that to you in your daily life every day.

So thank you for pausing and taking time today to seek Him in this moment. Let Him guide you and understand that He wants everything in us, every ounce of our being, to praise the Lord. I would just encourage you to seek Him today beyond this moment, to praise Him in it and see how He can reveal Himself in His presence, to cause you to praise Him even more.
