Springtime follows the dark cold of winter. The days grow longer, and the sun’s light becomes more intense. It is a celebratory time of year when we remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, the Light of the world. Because of faith in Him, we have a new life inside us, and we get the privilege of sharing that life with the world.
1. A Light Will Shine
The people who walk in darkness will see a great Light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a Light will shine. – Isaiah 9:2 NLT
Heavenly Father, we walk in a shadowy world that can often feel like a land of deep darkness. May we live in joyful expectation of Your Light shining bright in the dark. Illumine my world with the Light of the gospel, and may Your love drive the darkness away. Amen.
2. Jesus is the Light
“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in Me will no longer remain in the dark.” – John 12:46 NLT
Lord Jesus, You came into the world to save us from our sins and give us life in abundance. Help me trust in You and receive the Light of Your Word so that I may no longer live in darkness. May my desire be to walk in Your Light. Amen.
3. Turn from darkness to Light
“Open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in Me.” – Acts 26:18 NLT
Dear God, open my eyes that I may see Your work in my life. Guard my heart against the enemy’s deceit and expose the sin that I might turn to You. Forgive me for every evil thought and deed that I might have a place among Your people. Amen.
4. Know the Light
For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. – 2 Corinthians 4:6 NLT
Lord Jesus, turn Your face toward me that Your Light might shine into the dark corners of my life. May I know Your glory fully and deeply. As You spoke light into existence, speak Your Word into my heart that I might be filled with the knowledge of You. Amen.
5. Follow the Light
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the Light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the Light that leads to life.” – John 8:12 NLT
Dear Jesus, You are the Light of the world. Help me, by Your loving-kindness, to follow You so that I won’t be left to walk in the darkness of this world. Lead me to Your Light that I might have life, and I might have the abundant life that You came to give. Amen.
6. Live in the Light
For once you were full of darkness, but you have Light from the Lord. So live as people of Light. – Ephesians 5:8 NLT
Lord God, I was full of darkness until You gave me Your Light. I was wandering far from You in the shadows of sin. Your Light has shown to the very depths of my soul and lit my path. Grant that I might live in the Light of Your gospel and walk pleasingly to You. Amen.
7. Show the Light
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful Light. – 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
Heavenly Father, by Your goodness, You choose to give me the Light of Your gospel, and You have made me a priest in a holy nation. I am Your very own and precious to You. May I show Your goodness to others as You rescued me from the darkness. Amen.
8. Eternal Light
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish It. – John 1:5 NLT
Eternal and Almighty God, the Light of Your gospel is from everlasting to everlasting. There is no end to Your love, and darkness cannot extinguish the Light of Your gospel. Therefore, may I live with confidence that Your Light will continue to shine, and my hope in You will be fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, amen.
