Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

Have you ever been in a season in your life where it just felt shaky? It was just unstable. Maybe you're sitting there thinking, oh my goodness, I am in one of those seasons right now. Well, what produces those feelings, that season that we find ourselves in? Many times, is because we have placed our trust in something or someone that either left us, abandoned us, hurt us, or just wasn't as solid as what we thought—could be a career, a loved one, family member, friend. A variety of things.

And actually, that's where we find in our verse today something that's different, a wonderful option that we have that we can choose to actually place our feet firmly upon and not have to worry about it—solid to sustain us, to hold us secure. Doesn't that sound amazing?

Well, let's get into our verse. It's 2 Samuel chapter 22 and verse 32 and it says, "For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock."

You know, let's just take a moment and just consider: Are we placing an expectation on someone in our life to be something that only God can be? We may look at a loved one, a friend, a pastor, someone else that's significant in our life as our rock. Let's review the verse again. The last part of the verse: "Who but our God is a solid rock."

Wouldn't it be amazing if during those shaky, unstable times that we had our feet firmly planted on a solid rock that can be trusted, that will not be moved, and is not shaken because of the circumstances in our life? He can't go away. He can't change. It’s a God that we serve that's immutable, which means He will not change. He will always be there for you.

Standing on the ROCK

I would love to leave you with some points around the rock. Just as a reminder, the R would stand for remove distractions. When we focus on things that are temporary, that can be movable, that are very temporary in our lives, that can be shaken based on circumstances that come along, we put those in perspective by removing them out of the focal lens, out of actually being the foundation in our life—removing them, and allowing God to be that foundation and solid rock. So remove the distractions.

The O is obey His Word. Jesus Himself compared it perfectly with this verse. He said, "A wise man is one that builds his house on a rock, and that wise man is one that hears His words"—Jesus' words—"and listens to them, obeys them. A foolish man, on the other hand, is one who doesn't listen or obey His words. And it's like building his house on the sand. And when the storms of life come, the one that obeys His word will be like a house built on the rock that will stand firm. And the one who doesn't listen to or obey His word is one who builds his life on the sand that will come crashing down."

The C is connect with Him. It's one thing to look at Him as a solid rock, but we know to truly have something in someone so that we can put our full, complete trust in them, we have to be able to spend time connecting with them and learning to trust them more. So take time to connect with God regularly.

The last one, the K, is keep going. Many times when it feels unstable—I've had those times in my life where it feels unstable and we're on shaky ground—we stop what we're doing and we feel like we have to get comfortable before we can keep going. You are planted firmly on a solid rock. Just keep going. Trust Him. Let Him be your solid rock today.
