God Is Our Ultimate Stability

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

You know, recently I was at the doctor and he looked at my blood count and was a little bit concerned. So he had me come back about a month or two later and the numbers were down a little bit, had me come back again, and then he finally said this. He said, "You know, your blood count is actually fine. Your blood is—I think the word is—coagulating together. So it was giving a misread in the numbers. So your blood count is fine." I was relieved! The anxiety level lowered.

Where Can We Put Our Stability

I don’t know about you but there's a lot of things we put our stability in. We put our stability in health, which is a good thing to have good health. We put our stability in marriage, which is not something that we should put our ultimate stability in. We shouldn't put ultimate stability in any of these things. We shouldn't put ultimate stability in our jobs. As good as that is, we shouldn't put ultimate stability in our retirement, whatever it might be. In a world of instability, God says He wants to be your ultimate stability.

There's a tremendous verse in Proverbs chapter 18 and verse 10, which says, "The name of the Lord is a strong fortress. The godly run to him and are safe."

Two Ways to Find Ultimate Stability

There's two ways, according to this verse, that we can find ultimate stability. The first one is the Lord is our stability. The name of the Lord is a strong fortress. And what that means is it's talking about how God is our strong fortress, our strong tower. He, by who He is in His character, He's omniscient. He knows everything. He's omnipresent. He's everywhere present. He's omnipotent. He's all powerful. So as you look at stable things, stable people in the world, He is our ultimate stability because of who He is.

Secondly, "the godly run to him and are safe." He's not only a strong presence, a strong tower for us, but He's a safe presence. He's a safe haven for us.

Where Do You Put Your Stability?

As you look at your life, as I look at mine, where do you, where do I put our stability? Work? Job? Friends, family. The past, the present, the future, our health, whatever it might be. Think about where you put your stability.

Two Final Thoughts

And as you're processing all of this, I want to just share with you this. There's a couple thoughts for you as we leave. Number one, run from sin. You know, sin makes us incredibly unstable, brings with it guilt, brings with it anxiety. Matter of fact, the psalmist said in Psalm chapter 32, verses 3 to 5, "When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away." I mean absolute instability. When we have sin in our life, and then the guilt just cakes on our soul and it's like a pig pile on our conscience. So we should run from sin.

But secondly, we should run to the Savior. He is our stability. He's the one who loves us, died for us, and wants to be our stability. What is it in your life? May you put the Lord Jesus Christ first in your life, because He wants to be my and your ultimate stability.
