“…For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.” Habakkuk 1:5 (NLT)
Years ago, I was in Jakarta, Indonesia, as a guest of an evangelist who was addressing a soccer stadium of 10,000 people over the course of five days. The evangelist preached the message of salvation, and hundreds came forward to receive Christ. It was my privilege to stand at the base of the makeshift stage and pray with those who arrived to give their lives to Jesus.
On the fourth evening, while I was explaining the Christian walk to a couple, I noticed the crowd behind them parting and making room for a man and his daughter. She was thrashing about as they headed directly toward me. Through the interpreter, the father explained his daughter was demon-possessed. Her eyes rolled back, and she foamed at the mouth. Her father said she had been this way for well over a month and wanted us to pray for her. With his permission, we laid hands on his daughter and began to pray.
As we prayed over this young woman, each time we spoke the name of Jesus, she would drop to the ground right out from under our hands. Her father would pick her back up and plead with us to keep praying. This went on for a while until the moment when this young woman’s eyes returned to normal, and she stood on her own two feet, perfectly calm. In that instant, her father started sobbing. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” he kept saying in his native tongue. He had gotten his daughter back.
Friends, God didn’t create life to be boring, predictable, and purposeless. We must choose to look for God’s plan and live it out if we want to live an adventurous Christian life.
Consider the lives of the disciples. On any given day, they saw miracle after miracle. One day Jesus is turning water into wine, and the next He is feeding five thousand people with only two fish and five loaves of bread. On another day, He’s raising a dear friend from the dead. If that’s not an adventure, I don’t know what is!
Consider Jesus’ words in John 14:12-13: “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”
All around the world, there are testimonies of how God is still performing miracles today. If we seek His kingdom above all else, we’ll position ourselves to be a part of His miraculous work here on earth. I want to live that kind of adventure, don’t you?
