I’m hoping I can inspire you to do less this year. I know that may sound strange, so let me explain.
The start of a new year is always exciting because of the new opportunities ahead. We’re often pretty good about including more exercise or eating better, but sometimes we fail to seek out ways we can grow spiritually.
This is where I hope to encourage you to do less...a little addition by subtraction!
Recent studies show that we are remarkably addicted to our phones—we touch them thousands of times each day! As convenient as they are, our devices can keep us from drawing near to God.
In his book, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry,” Pastor John Mark Comer encourages us to eliminate hurry from our lives, because the frenetic pace we often keep is one of the enemy's greatest weapons against our growth as Christians.
And Corrie Ten Boom once said, “If the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy.”
But Jesus gives you and me this invitation—“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Then He encourages us to take on His yoke which is easy, making our burden light.
This year, I hope you can begin to eliminate the things that cause you to hurry through each day and find more time to rest in the presence of Jesus.
