Sarah Shaver talked with Margaret Michael, Outreach Pastor at Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene about their Celebrate Recovery, which brings Christ-centered 12-step recovery programs for the hurts, harms, and hang-ups of life to the Harrisonburg area. Pastor Michael talked about CR’s history, how it differs from other 12-step programs, and shared her own recovery testimony. Michael highlighted the five guidelines that protect confidentiality and give safety to CR meetings, helping people trust others and learn to respect and set boundaries in their lives. Pastor Michael then outlined the general CR meeting, sponsors and accountability partners, and the Step Study, which she believes is a great discipleship tool as well as a recovery tool. Michael said, “I love to study the word of God, but this (Step Study) is where God’s word studies me,” and she invited everyone to reach out and experience CR. Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene also has a Spanish-speaking CR.
