Peter Kaye speaks with Janet Seckel-Cerrotti of FriendshipWorks about their unique volunteer based programs designed to end elder isolation while creating meaningful connections. Seckel-Cerrotti discusses some staggering health statistics related to social isolation and loneliness and shares heart-warming stories of seniors and their FriendshipWorks’ matches bridging the generation gap and becoming in some cases life-long friends. She shares the encouraging thought that, “You’re never to old to have a new friend and you’re never too young to have an old friend”. Seckel-Cerrotti also spotlights their medical escort program that provides seniors with companions to help navigate medical appointments and provide often needed emotional support.
