Macomb County Humane Society Shelter Director Ken Kempkins and Marketing Coordinator Maddy Stutte were Sarah Shaver’s guests. Ken talked about the Society’s founding and history and the fact that they receive no funds from any government entity or agency. They have had a huge kitten season and he talked about their partner group, All About Animals, and TNR – trap, neuter, release – for community cats. The Society engages the community in humane education and they have a summer camp for kids that also educates, using their dog and cat trainers and several farm animals. Maddy continued discussing humane education for children and families, the ideal of “no kill nation,” their rescue collaboration project, their foster home program and why it’s important, surrendering pets to the Society, how to report cruelty, and the fact their dogs love hot dogs and cheese!
