Sarah Shaver spoke with D.R. Gossett, Executive Director of The Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization, (ILCCAO) who outlined their mission, long history, and how they work, many times, quietly in the community to serve one in four Lawrence Countians with affordable housing, health care, job placement, help with home weatherization, early education/Head Start, and many other “good works,” all as a private organization, not governmental. Gossett spoke in depth about their comprehensive health care, including mental health, Recovery to Work program, the quality of the staff, and the locations, including the brand new Nancy’s Place. Gossett noted that their Proctor’s Landing senior living project in Proctorville received a national award. Gossett recounted the story of the ILCCAO working with FEEMA to bring relief supplies to New Orleans and then 20 Hurricane Katrina survivor families to Lawrence County to rebuild their lives.
