Jeanice Lee speaks with the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Virginia Beach, Tracie Miner. Meals on Wheels started in 1974 in Virginia Beach. They deliver and prepare meals for homebound people who are needing short/long term support, convalescing/elderly, people with disabilities/handicapped, by providing two meals a day M-Thurs with enough meals to carry through the weekend. Miner states that they serve 65 – 70 thousand meals annually and she describes how important having nutritious meals is to a persons well being and recovery. Miner shares the great relationships built between their clients and volunteers who not only deliver fresh meals but provide peace of mind to people and their families, knowing someone will be doing “love checks” daily by delivering meals and providing safety and well-being checks - sometimes this being the only human contact their clients have all day.
