Posted on Sunday, March 24, 2024 by Jeanice Lee

Jeanice Lee talks to Kristin Frost Albrecht, Executive Director, The Food Basket Hawai'i Island's Food Bank. Due to inflation many people are experiencing food insecurity including Seniors. Albrecht says they function on a culture of kindness not judgement and anyone can receive food. Albrecht shares their work with schools by providing Keiki Backpacks. One of their goals is creating school pantries. They will help people qualify for SNAP which allows some extra food support. Albrecht describes how they work with farmers, ranchers, and fisherman to access food for the island including culturally appropriate food which helps supports the economy.
