Jim Davis speaks with Heather Johnson, the Executive Director at The Gathering Place Mission in Georgetown. Johnson tells the story of the mission starting as a men’s homeless shelter but has since grown to include a women’s shelter as well as an emergency shelter and a community kitchen. Their future plans include a shelter where families can stay together as opposed to being split up, which is the current situation. Residents have the opportunity to learn from professionals who come to the shelter and teach on finances, education, nutrition and other topics. Johnson shares about volunteer opportunities and describes a story of impact that paints a good picture of why the organization does what it does.
