In One of America’s Most Atheistic Cities, a Young Pastor is Redefining the Christian Social Scene
Seattle, Washington — Known as one of the most secular cities in America, Seattle ranks low in church attendance among cities of its size. According to a recent Census Bureau report, nearly 64% of residents say they rarely or never attend a house of worship.
But something unexpected is happening in the heart of the Emerald City—something that could shift the spiritual landscape for a generation hungry for connection, community, and Christ.

Evan Robertson, a 25-year-old pastor originally from Baltimore, Maryland, is the founder of Accord Lounge—a Christian nightclub in Seattle. The idea was born out of a lonely New Year’s Eve in 2022.
“I am my target customer,” Evan says. “On December 31st of that year, I had plans with a Christian friend, but I got stood up. I spent the night alone and promised myself I would never do that again.”

By the following year, that personal moment of disappointment turned into purpose—and Accord Christian Nightclub opened its doors. Evan's vision? To create a safe, spirit-filled environment where Christians could gather, dance, worship, and build lasting connections outside of traditional church walls.
From Parking Lot Praise to Purpose
Evan’s journey with Jesus became real in 2021, during a battle with depression. Though raised in a Christian home, he says his faith became personal through Scripture and surrender.
“The Bible brought life back to me. I gave everything to God that December, and I’ve been passionately pursuing His presence ever since.”
He recalls the early days of ministry while attending Morgan State University, an HBCU in Baltimore.
“My friends and I started something called Midnight Prayer and Praise. We’d worship in parking lots or sneak into buildings during the winter. That hunger for community—that’s where the heart of Accord was born.”

What Is the Accord Christian Nightclub?
At its core, Accord Lounge is a place for believers to be their authentic selves without compromising their faith.
“Our mission is to host unconventional parties that free Christians to be who God created them to be,” Evan explains. “We play spiritually uplifting music, offer prayer cards, and foster an atmosphere of encouragement.”
And it’s not just for churchgoers. While the online Christian community has shown strong support—despite the occasional troll on TikTok or Instagram—Evan says the club is also drawing “Jesus-curious” individuals.
“We’re seeing people who wouldn’t normally step foot in a church. Seattle may be the least religious city, but that’s all the more reason for us to be here, showing people the love of Christ in a new way.”
What’s a Christian Rave?
One of Accord’s most popular events was something even Evan didn’t expect: a Christian Rave.
“A friend suggested it. It’s EDM and house remixes of gospel and Christian music—and it was our biggest night yet. The energy in the room was incredible.”

More Than a Party: It’s Kingdom Connection
Evan sees Accord Lounge as more than just a nightlife venue—it’s a launchpad for kingdom relationships.
“God told me during a fast that I would be a connector. Whether it’s business partnerships, friendships, or even romance, people come alone and leave with community.”
He adds, “You don’t need alcohol or the world’s version of fun to enjoy yourself. What you need is people—and God.”
A Safe Alternative to the Club Scene
Evan is clear that Accord is intentionally different from secular clubs. The environment is free of drugs and alcohol, with a focus on safety, respect, and authenticity.
“We did research. Most people don’t feel safe in the average nightclub—especially if they’re not drinking. There’s inappropriate behavior, unwanted advances. Accord is a space where you can belong, be free, and be fully yourself in Christ.”

Looking Ahead: New Year’s and Beyond
The next Accord Christian Nightclub event is set for their one-year anniversary—New Year’s Eve in Seattle.“When I moved here, I couldn’t find a Watch Night service,” Evan says. “I grew up lifting my hands at midnight, thanking God for another year. That’s what we’re bringing back—worshiping into the New Year with joy and purpose.”
Evan hopes to expand the Accord concept nationwide and points to similar movements already growing in Tennessee and Florida.
