It takes a child with a caring heart to do what Malachi Fronczak does. The Kokomo, Indiana, 11-year-old has operated a sidewalk lemonade stand for seven years: Malachi’s Magnificent Lemonade Stand. It has taught him a lot about the concept of business and has helped him with people skills. But above and beyond that, Malachi has acquired an appreciation for people serving in law enforcement. And when he heard about an officer losing his life in the line-of-duty, Malachi asked his mother, Trisha, if he could donate the money from his lemonade sales to help the officer’s family members. That was a ‘yes.’
And just this year, tragically, three Indiana law enforcement officers made the ultimate sacrifice within days of each other. And, again, Malachi went to work to do what he could to encourage those left behind. He doesn’t understand why anyone would want to harm a police officer. And he realizes when an officer is lost, often, a kid has also lost his dad or mom. So, Malachi helps. “They went through enough and they need a boost in life.”
Malachi, too, feels a benefit in doing the lemonade blessings. “The warm feeling of them getting something they need.”
Has Malachi always had such a tender heart, concerned about others? “Oh, yes, he has!,” mom Trisha smiles. He once even volunteered to help his mom take care of babies at church. “He loves babies.”
Note: Malachi has a “secret” recipe for his lemonade, but declined to reveal it. That’s the business-savvy entrepreneur in him showing.
Trisha is very proud of Malachi, “Especially as parents, we kind of often question, 'Are we doing the right thing? Are we sending him in the right direction?' And to know that he has such a tender heart and wanting to help others, compassion, it really helps to - I guess know in some aspect - that we’re doing something right.”
