As you think about this tremendous verse, it really points to the fact that we have things in our life that we can do and things that are in our life we don't need to do. In other words, things that are valuable and things that aren't as valuable. This verse that Paul writes is a tremendous encouragement, a tremendous reminder to you and to me to think about what is truly valuable and what will really last.

Work Enthusiastically for the Lord

He says, first of all, work enthusiastically. Work enthusiastically for the Lord. As you think about your life, as you maybe serve God in the church or you serve your family, or you try to do your job really, really well. How enthusiastic are you? Am I when we work?

I have to be honest, there's many times where whether it's in my family life, my personal life or my job, sometimes I'm just kind of going through the motions of the drudgery of work. Paul says right here to work enthusiastically.

Nothing You Do for the Lord is Ever Useless

Then he says this, always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. Another version says, is never in vain. This is an absolutely, tremendously encouraging statement.

I want you to think about this as you look at that verse. Everything you do for the Lord, none of it is in vain. Everything you do for God is worth it. I want you to think about the times you’ve been tired. I was just speaking with one of my relatives recently, and he's serving in junior high ministry, and he just felt like the kids weren't listening as much when he was teaching. He just basically said, just kind of really wondering if it's really worth it or not.

Is It Really Worth It?

I want you to think about right now all the times that you have served the Lord. I want you to think about all the times that you've served the Lord and you've thought this thought: is it really worth it? Does it really matter in the end?

It does. Paul says right here in this verse, everything that you do for the Lord, none of it is worthless. Everything is absolutely valuable. Think about the inventory of your life, your work, your job, and your ministry. Maybe you work in church. Think about your relationships, or sharing your faith.

As you think about this verse, every single thing you do for God is worth it. Because of that, if we're faithful, we’re going to hear one day, "Well done, good and faithful servant." May we hear that because we remember everything we do for God is worth it.
