Finding God's Personal Presence in Your Life

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

Our verse today is a verse that is so full of encouragement. It's amazing. Before we get into breaking down or thinking through this verse and how it applies to, there's such a marvelous and amazing backstory to this that we would be remiss not to at least address or talk about.

The Amazing Context

These words are being spoken by Moses, and he's speaking these words to Joshua. Moses is nearing the end of his days, and he's about to pass the mantle over to Joshua to lead Israel. Imagine here you are, Joshua, and you're standing there and hearing these words spoken. He's looking at the man saying these words, and this is the man who came into Egypt and brought ten plagues upon Egypt.

He led all of these people of Israel out of Egypt and came to the Red Sea. At his command the Red Sea parted, and all the people walked across on dry ground. The same man that caused manna to feed the people, and doves to feed the people and have water come out of a rock. God gave Moses the commandments that were to lead and guide and govern a people for many, many generations.

This is Moses. Here's Joshua knowing that this man that's speaking these words, that's led the people, that he has seen God work in such powerful ways. Now all of a sudden, saying these words and passing the mantle, and now he is about to leave. Imagine what that would look like. Imagine what you would be thinking as Joshua is hearing these words.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

If these words were being spoken to you from someone as great as Moses. Imagine the doubt that you may feel. Imagine it's like, oh, there's no way I've seen what Moses has done. Yes, through the power of God, but I've seen what Moses has done, and we can start having self doubt. That's why I wanted to really focus on this, because we can look at pastors, we can look at religious leaders, we can look at all these people, we can look at these prayer warriors.

We think about these words are for them. They're there for Moses. They're not for me. The amazing thing is, Joshua, when he led the people of Israel. Guess what? He never parted the Red Sea. He never hit a rock or talked to a rock and had water come out of it. He never brought down plagues on a group of people.

We often can get lost in not seeing God in this verse being lived out in our life because we think we have to see it the same way God's doing it in this godly person's life. Just like Joshua, it didn't look the same way for Joshua as it did for Moses. God works in different ways, but His power in your life is still there.

Even though these words are for Joshua, Scripture is very clear and consistent. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, a child of God, these words are echoed throughout Scripture that you can claim them for yourself. I just want to read this verse again to you, not because it has to look the same way as the pastor looks, or this godly person in your life looks.

I want to read this to you for you to know that God wants you to receive this. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you today. He will be with you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. Be looking for that in your life and His presence today.
