Standing Firm in an Unstable World

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

In a world where societies are going to rise and fall, leaders change, and there's political turmoil, and even our most stable institutions can crumble- what are you going to build your life on?

This verse has an answer, and the answer is something that transcends all earthly instability. The answer is that there is an everlasting kingdom, and there is a King who rules throughout all generations, because earthly kingdoms—you know this—they're going to come and go.

We know all too well that even the society that we live in is fragile and susceptible to decay and defeat. Remember that you're part of another kingdom. You are part of a kingdom that is everlasting. Remember that you serve a King, and the King you serve will not be taken down. He rules throughout all generations.

How This Truth Applies to Your Life

How does that truth apply to your life? How does that apply to my life? The world around us is unstable. The world around us that we are a part of is constantly shifting and changing. But God's kingdom, which we as Christians are also a part of, is not shifting and is not changing.

Where I live there are a lot of hills—some people call them mountains. Some mornings you'll wake up and those hills, those mountains are obscured by clouds, fog, or mist, and sometimes you can't even see the hills. If you wait long enough, that mist, that fog, it's going to pass, and you will again see that ancient mountain standing firm.

Christian, you are on that mountain. The world around us is going to shift and it's going to pass us by ultimately. Our lives in God's kingdom are built on this rock.

Living Without Fear

Here's the application: We do not need to fear, and we do not need to worry. Why don't you do this today? Why don't you consider your anxieties over the future? Why don't you consider the things that give you unrest? Maybe it's political turmoil. Maybe it is social uncertainties. Maybe it's earthly trouble. Maybe it is your own personal pain and suffering, or family struggle.

Whatever it is that makes you fearful or anxious, why don't you today remember that you are part of an eternal kingdom that will always stand. Remember Psalm 145 verse 13: For Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps His promises. He is gracious in all He does.
