The Strength of Patient Waiting

Waiting is such a wonderful word. Don't you just love to wait? Waiting for this, waiting for that. Going to a doctor's office and waiting in a waiting room. I mean, a whole room built just for waiting. Having our name on a wait list for a restaurant and then we wait. Finally, we're called and sent to the table, and we wait on the waiter and we’re waiting on our food.

Waiting on The Lord

Wait, wait, wait. Waiting is so hard. It is so difficult. Well, the Bible speaks about waiting for the Lord and waiting on the Lord. Our Verse of the Day is Psalm 27:14. The Bible says, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” The Bible says not only that we wait for the Lord, but we wait patiently.

You see, waiting is very active, especially when we are waiting on answers and we're desperate. It can feel like we'll never get the answer. The Bible says, wait patiently that God is going to answer, that patient waiting is not just sitting doing nothing, but it's waiting in obedience. It's waiting for God to move in such a way that we can see His hand. It's waiting expectantly.

In His Timing

The verse also reminds us to be courageous, to have a bold faith, to be strong as we're waiting. See, waiting is not weakness. Waiting is actually strength. We're told twice in this verse to wait patiently. Anything repeated in Scripture has to be important. It's no accident. You see, it's God's way of reminding us that His timing is more important than our timing.

His timing is perfect and His promises are sure. Waiting can be a tough word, but waiting brings God-sized results. So, what are you waiting on today? What are you waiting for God to do? Rather than growing weary, ask for God's strength while you wait. We may have waiting rooms, but a lot of God-sized things can happen while we wait.

Wait on the Lord. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be strong. Be courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord because He will answer.
