Don’t Let the Enemy Use You

Today there are many Christians being used by the devil. Yes, you read that correctly! You may say, “Wait a minute. I’m a child of God and I’ve surrendered my life to be used by Him, NOT the devil.” While that may be true, if you aren’t committed to also getting to know Him through His Word, then you can be deceived by your own understanding—what some like to call “your truth.” And if the enemy can confuse you, he can use you!

It’s like being in a relationship with someone but not taking the time to get to know them better. When that happens, it leaves room for affections to wander and lies to creep in. Our feelings, emotions and desires can begin to dictate how we respond to situations, rather than the truth. Those things may seem good and right, but they are not God.

Paul describes it this way in Hebrews:

“We have a great deal to say about this, and it’s difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand. Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food. Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature — for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:11-14 HCSB)

There were those who had come to faith, but were not yet mature because they still did not understand even the basic principles of God’s revelation—the milk. Immature Christians, are not able to understand the message of righteousness and distinguish between good and evil—the meat. And those who can not distinguish between good and evil are those who can easily be deceived and, as a result, deceive others.

The world has so many conflicting voices that will confuse those who aren’t trained up in the Word of God. I’ve heard emotionally compelling arguments like why holding unforgiveness is justified, and how retaliation and acts of destruction in the name of equality is a good thing. The list goes on and is very deceptive because although it seems righteous and noble, it actually leads to division, destruction and people being hurt.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 16:25 HCSB)

We must be committed to know God’s Word so deeply that when we encounter lies, when we are treated unjustly, unfairly, and unkindly, or when we see others treated that way—we don’t respond like the world who is hopelessly deceived, only making the situation worse. Rather, when we are established in His truth, we can respond like Jesus, speak truth, and choose the way of righteousness, which leads to true  healing, unity and reconciliation.

Today, make a decision to live and breathe the Word of God. Don’t discard what He says just because it seems unkind or harsh. Rather, lean into His Word, allow it to deconstruct your false beliefs, and rebuild your faith on the firm foundation of truth and clarity.
