Jeanice Lee talks to Kristie LaRose, the Executive Director of Aloha Animal Sanctuary, Oahu's first non-profit sanctuary for farmed animals, founded in 2019 to rescue and care for animals that have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. LaRose shares how the sanctuary provides a safe home for about 40 rescued pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, a turkey, and cats. Run entirely by volunteers, the organization offers animal care, educational tours, and community programs that help people connect with farm animals and understand their intelligence and compassion. Looking ahead, the sanctuary hopes to improve facilities, expand sustainability efforts, and continue promoting kindness, empathy, and animal welfare throughout Hawai'i. (AlohaSanctuary.org)
