Kindra Ponzio talks with Derek Beauvais, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Beauvais talks about the importance of the role the Bigs play in the Littles lives as mentors and friends. He shares his own experience of being a Big Brother to several kids over the years and how the relationships become life long, not always just for the season. Beauvais says that the Littles have shown improvement in school, academics, and accountability. He says there is a shortage of male Big Brothers and they just don't seem to volunteer as much. The is usually a waiting list for male littles to be assigned a male Big. Beauvais says it has a big impact on the kids to know their Big is a volunteer and is there because they want to see the child succeed.
