Kate Gerrity, Executive Director of Child Care Network (CCN) in Seymour, Indiana, was Sarah Shaver’s guest. CCN is an independent non-profit that has existed since the 1980’s and was created by a community group, Leadership Jackson County to serve as a “latch key” program for after school care. Jackson County has been a “childcare desert,” with over seven children needed childcare for ever available seat. The standard for a childcare desert is three. CCN now has On My Way Pre-K for pre-school care and Kids Klubs for afterschool care in area schools and parents, teachers, and kids are pleased with the programs and outcomes. Ms. Gerrity then talked about CCN’s long-planned Child Care Center which will be for children ages six weeks to 5 years old from 4:30am to 6:30pm. The building is now being rehabbed and they hope to open in the fall.
