Felipe Aguilar talks with Cassandra Reveles, First Teacher/Primer Maestro Program Coordinator, with Children’s Reading Alliance (CRA) in Las Cruces NM. CRA works with a network of parents and families to provide literacy education programs in their communities. Reveles talks about what recent data shows regarding New Mexico student’s literacy levels and what CRA is doing to help raise literacy levels. She explains the role of parents as their children’s first teacher, and how they train and equip children and parents to succeed, develop and improve their skills.
