Felipe Aguilar talks with Betty Sisneros-Shover, President of the Board, National Alliance on Mental Illness Santa Fe (NAMI Santa Fe). NAMI Santa Fe provides mental health education, advocacy, and support to individuals, and their families, who are dealing with mental illness. Shover discusses factors that lead to mental illness issues, including depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicide. She also discusses real-life situations that can “trigger” a mental illness episode. Shover addresses misconceptions about how mental illness only affects people of certain ages, ethnic groups, and socio-economic status. She also identifies “red flag” warning signals associated with mental illness. Learn more online at (namisantafe.org).
