Joel Reagan talks with Ilana Xinos, Director of the North American Bison Discovery Center, serving Jamestown and providing bison education to visitors and students. Xinos describes the center’s history, living bison herds, interactive exhibits, and bison’s role in prairie ecosystems. She discusses traveling trunks, virtual programs, podcasts, and plans to expand remote learning. The interview also explores bison conservation, cultural relationships, and safe wildlife viewing. Xinos shares a memorable rule: if your thumb covers a bison at arm’s length, you’re close enough. (bisoncenter.org)
