Sarah Shaver chats with Amanda Pruss, Regional Director, Special Olympics, Wilds Region (PA). Pruss discusses the Special Olympics mission for persons with intellectual disabilities and why the movement has become so important world-wide. She pays special attention to the Unified Sports program, where Special Olympians and regular-abled athletes train and play side-by-side. She notes there is no cost to any athlete or their family and they also seek to enhance the leadership skills and health of their athletes. After listing favorite sports, Pruss says a Wilds bocce team snagged a state championship. (specialolympicspa.org. 814-234-8750, apruss@specialolympicspa.org)
