Sarah Shaver spoke with Executive Director David Brightbill, Senior and Community Services Director Carrie McNamee, and Head Start and Child Development Director Rachel Shipley from the Washington-Morgan Community Action Organization in Marietta, Ohio. They discussed what a community action organization is – and isn’t – and how they serve the most vulnerable citizens in Ohio’s Washington and Morgan counties. The CAO offers many services, highlighted by Head Start and Early Head Start that includes the needs of pregnant women; medical, dental, and nutrition needs of families; rent, utility, and housing repair/weatherization assistance; services for homeless veterans; senior nutrition; They have a much-needed transportation department and are also the public transportation provider for Washington County.
