Prayers for Stress Relief

Anxiety

Stressful seasons are an unfortunate but unavoidable part of life. But maybe for you, your entire life feels like a stressful season. Operating under chronic stress is exhausting to both your physical and mental health. Sometimes freedom from it may seem impossible.

The good news is, it’s not impossible. You can experience peace, comfort, and joy in Christ. Our Father in heaven cares about our needs, our fears, our anxieties, our stresses, our joys, and everything in between. He desires that all of His children would trust Him enough to bring Him their worries and let Him, in return, give them peace of mind and heart, even amidst the chaos.

Here are six Scripture-based prayers to pray for stress relief.

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation. – 2 Thessalonians 3:16 NLT

Lord, I am overcome by stress right now. There are so many things that need my attention and I don’t even know how to prioritize them all. I know the Bible promises that You are peace, and that You give us Your peace at all times, in every circumstance. Help me to feel it even in the middle of all this chaos. Help me to surrender my worries to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. – 1 John 4:4 NLT

God, my problems seem so big, but You are bigger. There’s nothing I could face in this life that You aren’t in control of and that You don’t have authority over. I trust that my victory has already been won in You. Help me to live in the truth of that when I’m overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed out. Cover me with Your peace, Your love, and You grace when I need it the most. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When I am overwhelmed, You alone know the way I should turn. – Psalm 142:3a NLT

Heavenly Father, sometimes I just wish I could see the future. I wish I could know for sure that everything is going to work out in my favor. It’s frustrating to feel like I don’t know what’s next for me or when this stressful season will end. I know You know my future and You hold it in the palm of Your hand, but will You just be with me in the middle? Will You help me to slow down enough to sit in Your presence, and let that be comfort enough for today? All my safety is found in You, Jesus. In Your name, amen.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you. – Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT

God, thank You for your constant presence in my life. Even before I knew who You were, You were with me. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. When I feel alone, when I feel abandoned by my friends and family, remind me that You will never leave me. In every dark, stressful moment, I know You are right there, even if I can’t feel You. Please be near in this moment, and help me to feel Your comforting presence by my side. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up. – Proverbs 12:25 NLT

Jesus, I could really use an encouraging word right now. When I’m stressed out I get so in my head that I start to doubt things I know to be true—that I’m loved and cared for, that I have value in Your eyes. Please send the right people to encourage me and lift me up in moments when I can’t do it for myself. Give me the strength to turn to Your Word to remind myself of Your good promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. – Psalm 4:8 NLT

Lord, I’m having such a hard time sleeping lately because of all the stress I’m under. As soon as I lay down, my mind starts racing and it feels impossible to slow it down. I pray this verse over myself as I’m going to bed tonight, trusting that You will quiet my mind, slow my heart, and help my body relax enough that I can get peaceful, restorative rest. Watch over me as I sleep. Keep me safe. Thank You, Lord. I love You. In Your Son’s name, amen.
