As the Colorado sun sets behind an iconic red rock skyline, CeCe Winans takes the stage. The familiar intro of a modern-day hymn begins. Supported by a trio of denim-clad background vocalists, the beloved “Queen of Gospel” leads a heartfelt rendition of “Goodness of God.” With a sparkle in her eye, she sings:
All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God
While the gospel harmonies are stunning, the most moving performance comes from the congregation. “We’re gonna try it one time; I wanna hear you sing it. Can I hear just the voices?” Winans asks.
