When reflecting on his new song "Better" Pat Barrett says...

"You don't really have to read much news or google many names to see the things that have taken out great leaders. We have a propensity to lose sight of the one thing.

Pat goes on to relate the song to the Parable of the Sower:

"There's one particular instance where the seed grows and it says it takes roots and then thorns grow up and they choke out what starts to grow. And Jesus said it was worry, the deceitfulness of wealth and desire for other things. Originally the song was called "Things." It's speaking to those things that, when we let them and they go unchecked and we assume that they're harmless, can choke out the thing that was once so life giving ... each section of verse deals with a specific issue ... and then the chorus"

You are the well that won't run dry
I have tasted, and I have seen
You are better than all these things
