K-LOVE’s Positive People – by Rafael Sierra, Jr. (complete podcast available) (more Positive People stories)
Jennifer Cattet of Indianapolis has a combined passion for helping people with serious medical conditions and unwanted dogs needing loving, forever homes. So, Jenifer began Medical Mutts, training shelter dogs to become medical service dogs, to help people with diabetes, seizures, and other serious health conditions.
“Our mission is to help the dogs that have suffered from abandonment and to help the people who need a service dog.”

Jennifer says they teach the dogs to smell when a person is going to go into crisis. She says the dogs know that something is happening, so they can alert the person to find the medical help they need.

Jennifer admits that it’s not easy training these abandoned animals to become highly trained service dogs. But despite the challenge, she says it’s definitely worth the effort.

“Knowing that I was able to make a difference," says Jennifer. "it’s really important to me. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.”
