Jeanice Lee speaks with Moriah Candler the Programs Director with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington serves kids ages 5 to 18 and beyond the transitional period. Their goal is to create a positive role model in a child's life outside of their own with one on one mentoring programs that ignite the power and promise of the youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington serves children and families within Thurston, Mason, Pacific, Lewis, and Grays Harbor Counties. They make a great impact by providing programs such their Site Based program where the "Little" and "Big" meet at a specific site such as a school to provide mentoring. Their other program is their Community Based program doing activities such as riding bikes, fishing etc. all to help break the cycle of poverty, substance use all while encouraging and empowering to see their best future and that they can achieve that. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington is in need of mentors and does offer training and background checks as safety for the children is their number one priority. Other programs they provide are their Military Mentor program, Bigs with Badges and MY STEAM programs which provides activities in science, technology, art, engineering and math.
