Monika Kelly spoke to Melissa Spradlin, Executive Director of Book'em in Nashville, TN. Only 34.9 percent of the students in Tennessee are reading at grade level and Book'em is dedicated to increasing literacy by offering free books to all grade levels. They've distributed more than 130,000 books year-to-date in 2021. Book'em encourages parents to read to their children at least 20 minutes a day and partners with local schools, businesses, and organizations like Habitat to Humanity to distribute at least one free book a year to children.
